There will probably come a time when you will need to wash your fancy dress wig.
The process for washing fancy dress wigs is fairly simple, below are the steps that you will need to take
Firstly, only use items such as shampoo that are specially made for wigs, don’t use the shampoo that you use on your own hair.
1. Get yourself a wig brush and brush your costume wig softly (no yanking and tugging).
2. Turn on your cold water tap and fill either the sink or a large bowl. Mix in one tablespoon of wig shampoo.
3. Put the fancy dress wig into the water and steadily wash it using the motion of washing your own hair, don’t be rough.
4. After about a minute or so, rinse the wig in cold water. Making sure that none of the shampoo is left in.
5. Gently dab the wig using a towel, don’t wring it out like you would a dish cloth.
6. Get hold of some wig conditioner and spray your costume wig, use the standard spray distance of around 12 inches when doing this.
7. Place the wig onto something that is quite narrow for drying out, don’t use a plastic head or similar as this can cause stretching.
8. Cover the wig in a small towel if you wish to help with the drying.
Note: Do not use a hair dryer or place the wig in direct sunlight to dry it.
9. Once the fancy dress wig is completely dry just give it a brush with your wig brush.
